Make This the Year You Lose That Excess Weight Once and For All

It’s a new year, and you want it to be the year of the “new you.” You’re ready to commit to shedding those extra pounds that have been weighing you down.

Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Matthew Baker with Lowcountry Plastic Surgery Center by H/K/B, has a recipe for your success: the hCG diet as seen on “The Dr. Oz Show.”

You’ve likely tried numerous diets in the past, and none of them worked. Your weight may have swung back and forth like a pendulum, leaving you irritable, hungry, and moody.

The Dr. Oz version of the hCG diet

You’re likely wondering what hCG is and what it has to do with a diet. Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, or hCG, is a hormone women produce in early pregnancy. It helps ensure that the uterus provide a healthy environment for the baby.

Why is hCG included in a diet? The creators of the hCG diet posit that the hormone helps your body burn fat and aids weight loss while you’re eating a low-calorie diet. The hormone is all natural, as it’s produced by the human body.

The original hCG diet was controversial because it allowed only 500 calories per day. Many experts criticized it as unsafe. The version of the diet that Dr. Oz touts has patients eating up to 1,500 calories a day

The Dr. Oz version of the hCG diet uses a 31-day jump start plan followed by a low-calorie plan for the long term. The first 21 days of the diet are the most restrictive. On Dr. Oz’s 21-day diet, you eat three meals and two snacks each day, but they need to be on the list of foods permitted during that time.

Eggs, fish, and lean animal protein including poultry, beef, and pork are permitted two times per week at the beginning of the diet. You can eat three servings of plant-based protein like beans, legumes, or tofu every day in specified amounts during the first three weeks.

You can also eat two servings of fruit, one ounce of nuts, and small amounts of healthy fat, including avocado and olive oil, in the first three weeks. One slice of bread is permitted during this time period. Dr. Oz recommends Ezekiel bread.

Besides water, Dr. Oz wants patients on the diet to drink two cups of oolong tea during the day. Dr. Oz says this tea can give your metabolism a boost and contribute to mental focus.

Using hCG to advance your weight loss

At Lowcountry Plastic Surgery Center by H/K/B, your weight loss occurs under the supervision of Dr. Baker. Medically supervised weight loss plans are safe and effective. If you’ve tried numerous diets on your own that haven’t worked, following a medically supervised program can interrupt the failure cycle.

We analyze your blood to determine the correct hCG dosage for you. You’ll take hCG injections daily for a few weeks while following a low-calorie diet. We’ve found that hCG helps boost your metabolism and reset it, which helps you burn fat more efficiently. Patients also report better sleep.
