How To Minimize Wrinkles in 60 Minutes

Wrinkles that start as fun laugh lines can grow to become a permanent reminder that you’re aging -- and something you notice every time you look in the mirror. While it’s all part of the natural process of getting older, you don’t have to put up with wrinkles and an aged appearance.

Dr. Jack Hensel Jr. explores what wrinkles are and how you can have them reduced in 60 minutes or less.

When you’re young, you don’t have wrinkles

That’s because youthful skin does a great job at retaining moisture and being elastic. It’s the middle layer of the skin that provides that youthful appearance, as it contains elastin and collagen that prevent wrinkles and ensures that enough moisture gets through to the base layer, the epidermis.

Over time, your skin naturally gets drier, and you lose the subcutaneous layer of fat that gives your face it’s plump appearance. The epidermis struggles to get the moisture it needs and begins to sag, and your dermis has lost much of the elastin and collagen that kept you looking young. The overall effect of these changes in your skin is wrinkles and lots of them.

Some people are prone to developing wrinkles earlier in life, for reasons that include:

There’s another way that wrinkles can appear, and that’s from your natural expressions. When you laugh or frown, you contract muscles in your face. Sometimes those muscles remain in a semi-permanent state of contraction, and your skin adapts by following the contours the muscles create. As a result, you end up with expression lines, aka wrinkles.

Today’s technology reduces wrinkles in no time

What may have taken decades to create can be reduced in a mere hour or less thanks to today’s cosmetic treatments and medical expertise. Here at Lowcountry Plastic Surgery Center, Dr. Hensel uses a range of scientifically proven approaches to reduce wrinkles and restore a youthful appearance. Let’s take a look at what they are and how they work.

Injectables provide quick results

Injectables include BOTOXⓇ Cosmetic and a variety of dermal fillers. BOTOX is particularly useful for treating expression lines such as crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead furrows. BOTOX is injected directly into the facial muscles, causing them to relax, which smoothes out the lines and wrinkles. You’ll start to see results quickly, usually within 24-48 hours.

Dermal fillers work well for treating passive wrinkles caused by the natural process of aging. Many of the dermal fillers we use here at Lowcountry Plastic Surgery Center contain hyaluronic acid, a substance that’s already found naturally in your skin. Hyaluronic acid attracts and stores moisture where it’s needed most. So injecting these fillers directly into the skin to smooth out lines and add volume is a fast way to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Laser skin treatments minimizes wrinkles

Advances in laser technology mean we can now use light to effectively treat the skin to minimize wrinkles and expression lines. It’s a fast and targeted approach that uses carefully controlled energy to treat the skin. Taking less than 60 minutes, it’s a great way to combat the signs of aging using a variety of modalities to revitalize the skin.

For example, intense pulsed light (IPL) treats signs of aging, such as sun spots and other discolorations. Skin resurfacing also treats a variety of skin issues, including acne scars, uneven pigmentation, and wrinkles. It encourages new skin cells to form during the healing process that’ll give your skin a tighter and younger-looking appearance.
