Botox Versus Fillers: Which One is Right For You?

If you’re looking for a way to reduce those fine lines and wrinkles on your face, but you don’t want plastic surgery, consider Botox® or dermal fillers. Both treatments offer natural-looking results with minimal down time.

Charleston-area residents trust Dr. Jack Hensel Jr. and our experienced team at Lowcountry Plastic Surgery Center in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, to help them look their best every day.

What is Botox®?

Botox® is a mild and safe form of botulinum toxin that diminishes signs of aging with as little as one treatment. It’s mainly used to treat wrinkles that form naturally around the mouth, eyes, and in between the eyebrows through daily movement as we smile, laugh, frown, or talk.

The Botox® product works by blocking the nerve signals in the muscles at the injection site. This causes the area to relax. Results take effect in three-to-five days, and last for about three or four months. You’ll eventually need follow-up treatments to maintain your desired appearance.

What are dermal fillers?

Injectable dermal fillers are different products, including hyaluronic acid, that plump and restore fullness to cheeks, thin lips, and the area under your eyes. They can also help erase fine lines, fill in shallow areas, and diminish scars.

Sometimes they are used to treat the hands, too. Like Botox®, results with dermal fillers are temporary. This is because the substances used in fillers are eventually absorbed by the body. This is a natural process and is nothing to be concerned about.
